Why We Host Every Website on AWS (and What That Means for Your Business)

Why Stacky hosts every website on AWS — serverless hosting explained for Malaysian businesses

Hosting is the part of a website nobody thinks about until it fails. When your site loads slowly during a promotion, goes down on a public holiday, or gets hacked through an unpatched server, the hosting decision someone made years ago suddenly becomes very real. So this post explains, in plain language, why every website we build and maintain runs on Amazon Web Services — and what that actually means for a Malaysian business owner who just wants the site to work.

What AWS actually is

Amazon Web Services is the cloud infrastructure arm of Amazon, and it is the largest cloud provider in the world. Banks run on it. Streaming services run on it. Government systems and global brands run on it. That matters not because big names are impressive, but because of what it implies: data centres with serious physical security, redundant power and networking, and an engineering standard that a budget shared-hosting company in a rented rack simply cannot match.

Most cheap website hosting in Malaysia is shared hosting: your site sits on one physical server alongside hundreds of strangers' sites, all competing for the same resources. If the server has a bad day, so does your website. AWS is a different category of infrastructure altogether.

Serverless, in plain language

We run sites serverless, using AWS Lambda. The name is slightly misleading — there are still servers, but none of them is yours to worry about. Instead of your website living on one machine that must be maintained, patched and rebooted, the code runs on demand across AWS's infrastructure. When a visitor opens your site, AWS provides the computing power for that request, then releases it.

  • No server of ours to patch, reboot or harden — a whole class of maintenance problems and attack routes simply does not exist
  • Automatic scaling — whether ten people visit today or ten thousand visit during a Raya promotion, the infrastructure grows and shrinks to match
  • No single point of failure — there is no one box that can crash and take your site with it
  • Pages delivered through a global CDN with edge locations close to Malaysia, so the site stays fast on local mobile networks

What this means for uptime

We target 99.9% uptime on the sites we host, and serverless architecture is a big part of why we can say that with a straight face. Traditional hosting fails in predictable ways: the server runs out of memory, a neighbouring site on the same box gets attacked, a disk fills up. Serverless removes most of those failure modes, and AWS's redundancy handles hardware failures invisibly. Our care plans add uptime monitoring on top, so if something does go wrong, we know before you forward us a customer's screenshot.

And for your data

Every site we host runs on HTTPS, so data moving between your visitors and the site is encrypted in transit. Content stored on AWS sits encrypted at rest in secured, access-controlled data centres, and regular backups mean that if anything ever goes badly wrong, we restore rather than rebuild. We wrote more about this in our guide to website data safety and backups.

The honest part: what it costs

Serverless pricing is pay-for-what-you-use, which is exactly why we can offer AWS hosting inside care plans that start at RM50 a month. Each plan includes a clear monthly allowance for storage, requests and database usage — the numbers are published on our pricing page, and a typical SME site uses a fraction of them. If your site grows past its plan, we tell you and recommend the next tier. No surprise bills, no quiet overage charges.

If your current site is sitting on shared hosting and you are not sure what you are actually getting, send us the URL through our contact form — we will take an honest look and reply within one business day, WhatsApp-friendly as always. Details of what every plan covers are on our website maintenance and hosting page.
