Website Launch Checklist: What to Test Before You Go Live

Website launch checklist — testing a new website across devices before going live

The design is approved, the copy is final, and everyone on the team is ready to share the link. This is exactly the moment sites go live with a broken contact form, a login-only page indexed by Google, or text that overflows on the one phone model nobody tested with. None of these are big mistakes on their own — but they are the ones your customers see first. Here is the checklist we run through before flipping any site live.

Every link, clicked by hand

Automated link checkers catch dead URLs, but they miss the things that matter more: a WhatsApp button that opens the wrong number, a 'Download brochure' link pointing at last year's PDF, a menu item that quietly goes nowhere on mobile. Click through every page, every button, every footer link — on desktop and on a real phone, not just a resized browser window.

Forms: send a real test enquiry

  • Submit the contact form with real-looking data and confirm the email actually lands — including in spam, the first time
  • Check the auto-reply (if any) reads correctly and is not signed 'Test Company Name'
  • Try submitting with a required field left blank — the error message should be clear, not a silent failure
  • If a quote or booking form has multiple steps, complete the whole flow once end to end

Mobile first, always

Most Malaysian visitors will land on a mid-range Android phone, not the designer's laptop. Check that headlines do not overflow, that buttons are large enough to tap without zooming, and that nothing important hides behind the sticky header or WhatsApp bubble. We cover the fuller picture in most of your customers are on phones — worth a pass before launch, not after.

Speed, and what Google sees

Run the live URL through a speed test before announcing it, not after — images that looked fine in a design file are a common culprit for a slow first load, and slow pages cost both rankings and patience, as we explained in why website speed matters for Google ranking. Confirm the page title and meta description read properly in a Google search preview, and that the site is not accidentally set to block search engines — a leftover 'noindex' tag from staging is one of the most common launch-day mistakes we see.

Tracking should already be live

If you plan to measure enquiries or run ads later, the tracking needs to be running from day one, because you cannot go back and measure traffic that already happened. Confirm analytics is capturing pageviews and that your key action — form submit, WhatsApp click, call button — fires as an event. Website analytics for non-technical owners covers the five numbers worth watching from week one.

One last pass: check the privacy policy and terms pages exist and are not still placeholder text, and that HTTPS shows a valid padlock on every page, not just the homepage. None of this needs to be perfect — it needs to be checked once, deliberately, before the link goes out. If you would rather have someone else run this list against your site before launch, send us the URL and we will take an honest look.
